Honoring Hank Williams
Saturday, September 16th, 2017, Destination Downtown Oak Hill is throwing a Hank Williams Sr. Tribute Festival! If you don’t already know, Hank Williams Sr. passed away in Oak Hill, WV. To honor his life, DDOH is having a festival dedicated to the era, the music, and the artist. Starry Eyes Media had the honor of designing the flyer for the festival.
The Project
We wanted to combine the unofficial Oak Hill city color (i.e., The Oak Hill Red Devils) with a vintage/grunge effect. We sourced a public domain image of Hank Williams and cropped the background out of it. As with most festivals, there are a lot of working parts and attractions. The goal was to present all of the information in a particular hierarchy so as not to produce a “crowded” and “busy” advertisement. We landed with a columnar layout for the lower 25% of the composition, dividing the primary attractions into “Craft Beer,” “Concert,” and “Cruise-In.”
This flyer was a super fun project because of the significant role Hank played in music. Doing this project is also dear to us because it is for our new community. We have been in our Oak Hill office for three months now. We are happy to be in such a beautiful and growing area.
