Local Tourism
– first came to us wanting to create a new website for Destination Downtown Oak Hill, a community group founded in 2015. It started as a few local businesses and grew into a volunteer community-led nonprofit. They work hard to offer fun activities for residents and businesses and attract newcomers to Oak Hill.
Oak Hill, WV, is a small town located in Fayette County. It overlooks the newly designated New River Gorge National Park and Preserves. – loves the area and wanted a site where people could learn more about the unique town. The website is another tool for the nonprofit to encourage others to visit or even relocate to the area.
Back to Our Roots
There were many reasons why we were thrilled to work with Destination Downtown Oak Hill. The first ever Starry Eyes office was located in Oak Hill, so this was a chance to return to our business’s original home. We got to know the directors of Downton Oak Hill from our time there too, and we loved the opportunity to help them support the city.
We met with the directors of the non-profit to figure out how we could meet their goals for this web development project. It needed to be appealing to those who have never been there before to entice them to make the trip. We chose a bright and friendly color palette for the website and branding identity. Then we created a page on the website to display every facet of the town the client wanted to showcase: Parks & Rec, Food & Drinks, Shop, Play, Stay, Health & Fitness, and Events.

A Local’s View
When making a first impression, a website is only as strong as its images. So, part of our team returned to Oak Hill, West Virginia for a photo shoot. We wanted our photos to reflect the experience of a day in town, so we met up with some locals and friends. Thanks to this personal touch, the photography is filled with all the fun, inclusivity, and community that Oak Hill can offer.

A Success Story
As a go-to resource and focal point for an impassioned non-profit, the website is the key to our work for Destination Downtown Oak Hill. The website had a tall task. It needed to do much more than just provide information. This website needed to display the vibrancy of a beloved West Virginia town through its people, culture, festivals, food, shopping, play, and so much more. Each page is filled with the people, businesses, parks, and activities that make the town a community. The viewer will find all they need to decide to make a visit to Oak Hill or come to stay.
One purpose of the website was to help facilitate the festivals and gatherings the town puts on every year. Before, any business wanting to register for a festival, movie night, or other activity had to fill out a form and mail it to a city office. In building the site, we digitized all these forms so registration could happen easily and quickly online.
